Training the Behavior You Want Repeated

Whether or not we like it, its true. Our belief system informs our behavior, and our actions form our habits.

When we believe that we can succeed then we behave in a way that encourages that success. And when we enact discipline and procedures in a specific manner, we form habits that affect our work flow and forward goals.

We dictate how negative or positive we will be in our beliefs. Which in turn informs what kind of behavior directs our actions and habits. We are in charge of these processes. No one else is.

Although you can improve upon any behavior with time, discipline and coaching, mindset is a major contributor in setting the tone for everything else to follow. With a strong the mindset of discipline and a belief of success, you can direct your behavior in a way that propels your actions forward to meet goals.

Not only are we in charge of our own beliefs, behaviors, actions, and habits, but these also affect those around us in the workplace. Especially in a position of leadership or influence!

“When Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” If you have a negative attitude then it sets the tone for your behavior to reflect your mindset. You’ll be more negative, begrudging, and less disciplined. And then your actions may turn out to be rude or ill-mannered. This will result your work and that of others around you! Similarly, a positive mindset fosters an environment of success, learning, and an uplifting culture to encourage one another to meet goals.

There are opportunities for improvement!

There are always opportunities in the workplace to improve behaviors, further discipline, learn more efficient procedures, and keep pushing through to the next level. With discipline and hard work, we can help each other stay on the right path to train the behavior that needs to be repeated.

You can also train wanted behavior in the workplace by directing others back to the established systems and procedures that keep the business running and the clients coming back.

In an administrative position it is common to be bombarded by various people and tasks that all seem to be “an emergency!” But if you allow others to break the block schedule or the proper system / timeline for a given task, then by your own actions (and not theirs!) you train them that behavior is acceptable. This forms bad habits very quickly among staff.

It is important to hold strictly to the established policies and procedures so that your habits and the habits of those around you are sculpted to support the actions, behavior, and beliefs of the culture and success of the business.

And it all starts with our mindset.

When we train ourselves to “mind what matters” and focus our attention on what is important for our life and business, then we direct power and momentum where they need to be. More importantly, we direct our focus away from non-income producing activities and negativity.

Since what you choose to focus on will become magnified in your life, focusing on what is positive and upbuilding will help you mind what matters to disregard the negativity that does not edify your business. When you believe that you will succeed with the current systems and procedures you have established in your business, then you enact the behaviors and habits to show it. Then as you train these habits with your mindset, everyone will see through your actions what you believe to be true. This will help lead the business to a culture of success.

It may be time to shift your focus so that you can adjust actions and habits to better align with your goals.

  • What activities are you focusing on?
  • What policies & procedures may be getting bent by bad habits or behavior?
  • Are you letting any negativity affect your mindset?

Magnifying your momentum to the income-producing activities and values that matter to the business allow you to hone in on your strategy and focus on the win. When you focus on believing positive truths about your business, they will be magnified in your actions and ultimately lead to your success.
